I have always loved to read. When I was little, my parents used to threaten to take my lights out of my room because I would consistently stay up way past my bedtime reading. An industrious child, I took to reading under the covers with a flashlight, trying to escape notice. Now that I'm older, I still love to read just as much and can happily now stay up as late as I want. For me, reading has always been an escape -- a chance to transport myself to another place, another time. Reading has always been a refuge, a source of inspiration, a chance to relax. I find myself revisiting my favorite books as I would an old friend.
Almost as much as I love reading, I love visiting libraries; they hold such wonder and possibility. The Boston Public Library in Copley Square is one of my favorite places in Boston. The building is imposing and beautiful, and commands the respect that is due to such an institution. My favorite part of the library is the courtyard. I love to sit, reading and people-watching, and while away the afternoon.
