Beautiful lyrics from a beautiful song.
THE WORLD RUSHES BY.
As I mentioned here, I love watching the world through a train window. Slightly blurred and out of focus, the scenes feel like a watercolor painting. I've always felt there is something romantic about traveling by train, in an old world way. The reality is often far from it, but a girl can dream.
ROCKPORT WHEN IT RAINS.
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
This past Saturday, my best friend and I took the train to Rockport, MA for the day. We've both been really busy lately, so it was great to be able to catch up and relax. It was one of those perfect, endless days. We didn't have anything planned; we just wandered around doing whatever we felt like doing. I'm a very organized person and sometimes have trouble just sitting back and letting things work out for themselves, so this was a great opportunity to be a little bit more laid back.
The day started out rainy, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Rockport is a picture-perfect seaside town. Everything is so pretty and picturesque. And oh -- the colors! The buildings were painted with the wonderful pastel and primary colors that you can really only get away with by the sea.
We began our day with coffee and croissants at a little cafe overlooking the water. This was undoubtedly the best croissant I've ever had stateside. Simply amazing. We spent the next few hours walking around town, taking pictures and browsing in the art galleries and sweet little boutiques. In the afternoon, we rented bikes and spent a few hours riding along the coast. We rode to the Paper House -- a house built in the 1920s made almost entirely of newspaper. It was incredible to see! By this point, the sun had made an appearance and our quiet, rainy morning had turned into a beautiful summer's day. We rode back into town and had some sandwiches in another cute cafe, and then spent the evening shopping and buying chocolate. It was a lovely day, and exactly what I needed.
Rockport was so beautiful, I couldn't stop taking pictures. More coming up soon!

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS.

I live right around the corner from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. For me, the museum has always been a place of refuge -- a space where I can spend hours wandering around by myself and stare in amazement. I go to the museum to think, to find inspiration, to give purpose to my day. I go to forget myself, to find myself, to experience something bigger than myself. Anything that may be causing me stress seems so trivial against the grandeur and longevity that I can find there.
It had been raining all day on Wednesday, so I decided to spend the afternoon exploring the museum. I've been wanting to see the Chihuly exhibit for a while now, and that's where I started. The colors and level of detail were absolutely spectacular. My pictures don't even begin to do the pieces justice; I highly recommend visiting the exhibit if you ever get the chance.

P.S. - Did you enjoy the first official day of summer? It was wonderfully warm here in Boston, quite perfect really. It's raining today, so I'm glad I was able to enjoy the sunshine while I could. New England weather, always keeping you on your toes.
MUCH LOVE.

The golden glow of the State House dome.
Vintage bottles serving as an interesting window display in the South End.
The way the sun shines delicately through the trees.
What have you been loving lately?
