As I mentioned yesterday, I was beyond excited for the first real snowfall of the season. I just loved the pattern that the falling snow created on a gravel path by my parents house. It feels almost reminiscent of leopard print, and was certainly more interesting than a white blanket of snow.

As I mentioned last week, we hadn't had any snow this season. Being mid-December in Massachusetts,  this was definitely out of character. Yesterday, we had the most wonderful first snowfall of the season. The snow was light and fluffy, and it was warm enough outside that you could actually enjoy it. Yesterday was also my little sister's birthday [ happy birthday H! ], and I'm so happy that she was able to have the "white" birthday she had been wishing for.

ON THE HORIZON.

Thursday, December 15, 2011

I found the stark simplicity of these buildings to be quite beautiful. I love the contrast of the brick + glass with the cloudless sky.

On another note, I had a wonderful time at the Boston Bloggers Holiday Fiesta last night! Many thanks to the lovely {av} & Katy for putting everything together. Have you ever participated in a blogging event? This is my second, and it has been so wonderfully inspiring to meet such talented [ local! ] folks. I can't wait for the next event!

WINTER LOVE.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

I must say, I've been missing the snow this winter. I can't quite believe it is mid-December in Boston, and we've yet to have a major snowfall.

While walking down my street the other day, I noticed this tiled entrance way to a neighboring building. I've walked this same route countless times, but had never appreciated the stunning patterns, textures, and colors. I couldn't help but wonder what other details I have been overlooking.

KNOTTED.

I just loved the details of this knotted old tree in the Public Garden. It's worn, intricate, beautiful, and wonderfully full of life.

LOVING LATELY // 4

Monday, December 5, 2011

I hope you've been having a lovely Monday! I still feel like I'm trying to catch up after my show-filled weekend. I went to see the Hot 8 Brass Band, the David Wax Museum [ I wrote a post about them here ], and the Nutcracker! They three shows were all amazing -- in very different ways! Although it was a busy weekend, I feel ready to start my week, full of inspiration!

Lately, I've been loving the way the sun shines delicately through the tree leaves in the late afternoon. Everything feels softer and more serene in the glow of the fading light.

COLOR THEORY // 3

Friday, December 2, 2011

Lately, I've been feeling inspired by rust and grey-blue. The bright orange tones contrast so delightfully with the cool blue hues. I'm definitely excited for the holiday season, but I'm sure going to miss the beautiful colors of fall.

FOR THE LOVE OF WORDS.

Thursday, December 1, 2011

One of my favorite parts about living in Boston is getting to explore the different neighborhoods of the city. My sister lives near the Brattle Book Shop over by Downtown Crossing -- an area I don't get over to very often. Although I've lived in Boston for almost four years now, it's only recently that I've discovered this [ relatively ] hidden gem. The book shop, which was founded in 1825 [ ! ],  is one of the oldest antiquarian bookstores in the United States. Right next to the shop is an otherwise unassuming parking lot that happens to be beautifully decorated with literary-inspired murals. [ As you may recall, I have a minor obsession with street art, so you can imagine how much I love this! ]

I've yet to go to the shop while it was open, but the exterior was so lively I couldn't help but take a few pictures. Apparently, as well as having an extensive collection antique and rare books, the Brattle Book Shop also has an amazing selection of books priced under $5.  Loving books as much as I do, I can't wait to go back and spend some time exploring their shelves.

[ ps - Don't you just love their tips for decorating with books? I would love to do this in my apartment. ]
