It is leap day, after all.
THE DETAILS // 11

I was walking around Boylston Street the other day, and I noticed the prettiest details on the bottom of this building. I love how the paint has started to wear away; it gives a such a wonderful sense of history and age.

I've always loved going for walks by the Charles River. To me, there is something soothing about being near water that I can't find anywhere else. Yesterday afternoon, I took advantage of the mild weather and spent a little while wandering around by the river. The light was beautiful and soft, and a gentle breeze sent ripples through the water.
Today, I'm linking up with Anna for Much Love Monday. Check out her blog & join in the fun!

BEAUTY IN THE SHADOWS.
Thursday, February 23, 2012
I've always been fascinated with shadows. There's something about their fleeting and delicate beauty that has appeals to me. On sunny days, sometimes I find myself more drawn to the shadows that abound than the blue skies and sunshine. I suppose the notion of photographing something that isn't really there, that is only a trick of the light, is somehow gratifying.
LET US GO THEN.

I remember reading T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" in high school, and something about it has stuck with me ever since. These first lines feel so tantalizing, so full of promise.
Are there any poems that you love?

AN AFTERNOON IN BEACON HILL.
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Beacon Hill has long been one of my favorite neighborhoods in Boston. Traditional and beautifully manicured, Beacon Hill feels quintessentially Boston, and is one of my favorite places to spend a lazy afternoon.
When I think of Beacon Hill, the gorgeous old brownstones that line the streets are the first thing that come to mind. The black shutters against the terracotta hues of the brick is a color combination that I'll never tire of.
Beacon Hill is filled with wonderful little restaurants and cafés. Beacon Hill Chocolates have an amazing assortment of jewel-like treats and the prettiest keepsake boxes to take them home in. In the summer, I love to grab a cappuccino and a pastry from Cafe Vanille and sit outside with a book for an hour or so. If you're ever in the area, I recommend you bring an appetite.
I absolutely adore shopping in local boutiques -- it just feels so much more personal than shopping at a chain outlet. While my student's budget doesn't allow for many splurges, Beacon Hill provides ample opportunity for guilt-free window shopping.
Although I love living in a city, I find myself always searching for touches of nature. Whether at a flower shop, in sweet little gardens, or in beautiful window boxes, there's plenty of greenery to be found in Beacon Hill -- even in the middle of winter.
I've always been fascinated by antique stores. I'm constantly drawn to things with a decidedly vintage feel, and could spend hours browsing their shelves. I love imagining the stories and history behind the items, and love knowing that they once meant something to someone.
As you may know, I take any chance I can to celebrate the little details that make a place special. Luckily for me, Beacon Hill is filled with interesting details, like the antique lettering on this custom framing sign and the hidden little garden behind a closed gate. These are the moments that I'll remember the most.
I hope you enjoyed Beacon Hill as much as I did!
